Popular Reasons

Why German Travellers Choose India

Culture, Nature & Adventure

German travellers are among the most adventurous in the world. Rajasthan's palaces and deserts, Kerala's backwaters, Ladakh's mountain landscapes, and the wildlife reserves of Madhya Pradesh draw thousands of German visitors every year. India's sheer scale and diversity make it a destination Germans return to again and again.

Wellness, Yoga & Spirituality

Germany has one of the most active wellness tourism communities in Europe. Rishikesh, Dharamshala, Mysore, and Kerala's Ayurveda centres attract a significant German following. Many German visitors come for week-long retreats and return with multi-entry 1-year eVisas to make repeat visits throughout the year.

Business & Industry

With over 1,800 German companies operating in India (Bosch, Siemens, Lufthansa, BMW, Volkswagen, Deutsche Bank) and bilateral trade exceeding EUR 30 billion annually, Germany is India's biggest European economic partner. The e-Business Visa covers trade fairs, board meetings, factory visits, and conferences with multiple-entry access.

Simple Process

How It Works

Three straightforward steps from form to eVisa

1

Fill Your Form

Our form is optimised for German passport holders. We auto-detect your nationality and pre-fill relevant fields. The form takes about 5 minutes for a single applicant. Group bookings for up to 10 travellers are supported, ideal for business delegations or family holidays.

2

Upload Documents

Upload your German passport bio page and a recent photo. Important: German passport photos follow the Schengen standard (35mm x 45mm, rectangular), but India requires 51mm x 51mm (2x2 inches, square). Upload any photo you have and our team handles the resizing and formatting to India's exact specifications, at no extra charge.

3

Expert Review & Receive Visa

A visa specialist checks every detail, including ensuring your name matches your German passport exactly. Umlauts (ae, oe, ue) and the eszett (ss) are handled correctly in the application. Your eVisa is delivered by email and works at all 32 designated airports, 6 seaports, and 2 land borders.

Insider Tips

India Travel Tips for German Travellers

✈️ Getting There

Lufthansa flies daily nonstop from Frankfurt (FRA) to Delhi (7h 40min) and Mumbai (8h 05min), and from Munich (MUC) to Delhi (7h 25min). Bengaluru is served three times a week from Frankfurt. Air India also operates Frankfurt-Delhi and Munich-Delhi nonstops. The short time difference (4.5h CET) makes jet lag manageable. Emirates via Dubai and Turkish Airlines via Istanbul are popular connecting options for other German cities.

💳 Money & Payments

India uses Indian Rupee (INR). 1 EUR equals approximately 93-97 INR. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas. Carry cash for local markets, auto-rickshaws, and rural areas. German EC (Girocard) cards often do not work abroad, so use an international Visa or Mastercard debit card. ATMs are widespread in cities and generally accept German bank cards.

🏥 Health & Insurance

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC/EKVK) does NOT cover you in India. Private travel insurance is essential for any trip. Check the German Foreign Office (auswaertiges-amt.de) for the latest India travel advisory. No mandatory vaccinations are required, but the Robert Koch Institut recommends Hepatitis A and Typhoid. Standard vaccinations should be up to date before departure.

🌡️ When to Go

October to March is peak season with dry, cooler weather across most of India. This is the ideal window for Rajasthan, the Golden Triangle, Kerala, and Goa. April to June brings extreme heat (above 40 C). Monsoon season (July to September) is excellent for Ladakh (which sees no rain) and lush Kerala, with lower prices. German summer holidays (June-August) align with monsoon, so plan accordingly.

What German Travelers Say

Great service. I was worried about the specific requirements for German citizens, but the team here made it very simple. Fast response times and I got my visa for my trip to Mumbai in just 48 hours. No complaints at all, everything worked exactly as promised!

Applying from Munich, I thought the process would be quick, but I didn’t expect to spend that much time double-checking everything. The instructions online are there, but not always very clear when you’re actually filling the form. What I liked about visain was that they simplified it. I just uploaded everything, and they handled the rest. No back-and-forth, no confusion.

My wife and I were planning a trip to the beaches of Goa. With a toddler in tow, we didn't want any surprises at the airport or issues with our application. visain.in was excellent, they double-checked all our entries and ensured the documents were 100% correct before submission. The peace of mind knowing that experts had reviewed our files was worth every cent.

Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. All German passport holders need a visa to enter India. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival arrangement between Germany and India. However, German citizens are fully eligible for India's eVisa programme, which means you can apply entirely online without visiting the Indian Embassy in Berlin or the Consulates in Frankfurt, Hamburg, or Munich. The eVisa is electronically linked to your passport number. Print the approval email and present it at immigration on arrival.

German citizens can stay up to 90 days per visit on the e-Tourist Visa (1-year and 5-year options). The 30-day e-Tourist Visa allows a maximum stay of 30 days with double entry. Note that the 180-day extended stay provision only applies to nationals of the USA, UK, Canada, and Japan. German nationals are subject to the standard 90-day maximum. If you need to stay longer than 90 days, you would need to apply for a regular visa through the Indian Embassy in Germany.

We offer three processing speeds: Express (48 hours), Priority (72 hours), and Standard (96 hours). All times are from receipt of a complete application. For the fastest results, apply during Indian business hours, which is roughly 3:30pm to 1:30am CET (2:30pm to 12:30am CEST during German summer time). Processing times are based on when your complete application is reviewed by our visa specialist team.

No. German passport photos (Passbilder) follow the Schengen standard of 35mm x 45mm (rectangular), but India requires 51mm x 51mm (square, equivalent to 2x2 inches). If you submit a German Passbild without resizing, it will be rejected. With VisaIn.in, you can upload any photo and our team will resize and format it to India's exact specifications before submission. No need to get new photos taken or visit a photo shop.

Not directly. India uses Type C, Type D, and Type M sockets. The small two-pin Europlug (Type C) fits into most Indian sockets and works fine for most travel adapters and small devices. However, the standard German Schuko plug (Type F, with two round pins plus grounding clips on the sides) does not fit securely in Indian sockets. You need a plug adaptor. Most universal travel adaptors sold in Germany cover Type D/M. We recommend buying one before departure rather than searching for one in India.

Refusal Protection is an optional paid add-on available at checkout. If your visa application is refused by the Indian government, this add-on refunds your service fee. It protects you against the rare event of an unexpected visa denial. The add-on costs a small percentage of your service fee and provides peace of mind, especially for first-time applicants or those applying close to their travel date.

Yes, with excellent connectivity. Lufthansa operates daily nonstop flights from Frankfurt (FRA) to Delhi (approximately 7 hours 40 minutes) and Mumbai (approximately 8 hours 5 minutes), and from Munich (MUC) to Delhi (approximately 7 hours 25 minutes). Bengaluru is served three times a week from Frankfurt. Air India also operates nonstop Frankfurt-Delhi and Munich-Delhi services. For travellers from other German cities, Emirates via Dubai, Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, and Qatar Airways via Doha offer convenient onward connections to dozens of Indian destinations.

This is a common concern for German applicants. German passports issued today typically render umlauts as their two-letter equivalents in the machine-readable zone (ae, oe, ue) and the name field shows the same. When filling in the eVisa application, you should enter your name exactly as it appears in your German passport, including any umlauts or their substitutions. Our visa specialist team reviews every application and verifies name fields before submission to make sure everything is consistent with your travel document.

No. The Europaische Krankenversicherungskarte (EKVK/EHIC) only provides coverage within the European Economic Area and Switzerland. It provides absolutely no coverage in India. You need separate private travel insurance for any trip to India. Make sure your policy covers medical evacuation, as facilities in rural India may require transfer to a larger city for treatment. Check the German Foreign Office website (auswaertiges-amt.de) for the current India travel advisory before departure.

Yes. VisaIn.in supports group applications for up to 10 travellers in a single booking. Each traveller needs their own passport and photo, but you can manage all applications from one account and pay together. This is convenient for families travelling on holiday as well as business delegations. Each person receives their own individual eVisa linked to their passport number.
