Popular Reasons

Why South Korean Travellers Visit India

Business & Manufacturing

South Korea is one of India's most important economic partners in Asia. Samsung operates the world's largest mobile phone factory in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Hyundai Motor India is India's second-largest car manufacturer, headquartered in Chennai. LG, Kia, POSCO, Lotte, and Doosan all have major Indian operations. Thousands of Korean executives and engineers travel to India each year for site management, project launches, and trade exhibitions.

Buddhist Pilgrimage & Heritage

Buddhism arrived in Korea from India via China in the 4th century and remains one of South Korea's major religions, with around 16 million practitioners. Bodh Gaya, Sarnath, Kushinagar, and Rajgir are important pilgrimage destinations for Korean Buddhists. Many Korean temples organise annual group pilgrimages to India, and Korean Buddhist monks study Sanskrit and Pali texts at Indian universities. The 90-day eVisa supports extended stays for study and meditation retreats.

Tourism & Cultural Exchange

The Golden Triangle (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur), Kerala's backwaters, Goa's coastline, and the Himalayas attract Korean tourists year-round. Korean food culture and K-dramas have created a new wave of cultural curiosity flowing in both directions. Yoga and Ayurveda retreats in Rishikesh and Kerala are particularly popular with Korean wellness travellers. India's diverse landscapes offer experiences from desert safaris in Rajasthan to houseboat cruises in Alleppey.

Simple Process

How It Works

Three straightforward steps from form to eVisa

1

Fill Your Form

Our form is optimised for South Korean passport holders. We auto-detect your nationality and pre-fill relevant fields. Korean names in romanised format (as printed on your passport) are handled correctly, including family name/given name ordering. Group bookings for up to 10 travellers are supported, ideal for business delegations, temple pilgrimage groups, and tour parties.

2

Upload Documents

Upload your South Korean passport bio page and a recent photo. Korean passport photos are 35mm x 45mm (rectangular), but India requires 51mm x 51mm (2x2 inches, square format). Upload any photo you have and our team handles the resizing and formatting to India's exact specifications. No need to visit a photo studio for a new photo.

3

Expert Review & Receive Visa

A visa specialist reviews every detail, ensuring your romanised Korean name matches your passport exactly. Your eVisa is delivered by email and is valid at all 32 designated airports, 6 seaports, and 2 land border crossings across India. Print the approval and present it at immigration on arrival.

Deep Roots

South Korea & India: Asia's Rising Partnership

From ancient Buddhist connections to a modern strategic alliance

🏭 Korean Industry in India

South Korean companies are among the largest foreign investors in India. Samsung's Noida factory is the world's biggest mobile phone manufacturing facility, employing over 5,000 workers. Hyundai Motor India, headquartered in Sriperumbudur near Chennai, is India's second-largest car manufacturer and operates the country's largest single-location car factory. Kia Motors' Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh produces over 300,000 vehicles annually.

LG Electronics, POSCO (steel), Lotte (food and chemicals), Doosan (heavy industry), and Samsung Engineering all have significant Indian operations. The Korea Plus initiative, a joint venture between the Indian government and KOTRA, facilitates Korean business investment with a dedicated fast-track approval system. Over 600 Korean companies currently operate in India.

◯ The Buddhist & Ayodhya Connection

Korea's connection with India stretches back nearly two millennia. According to the Samguk Yusa (a 13th-century Korean chronicle), Princess Heo Hwang-ok travelled from the ancient Indian kingdom of Ayodhya to Korea in 48 AD to marry King Kim Suro, founder of the Gaya confederacy. Millions of Koreans from the Kim and Heo clans trace their ancestry to this legendary princess. A memorial to Princess Heo stands in Ayodhya, and Korean delegations regularly visit the site.

Buddhism itself reached Korea from India via China in 372 AD and remains one of Korea's three major religions, with approximately 16 million adherents. Korean Buddhist monks and scholars maintain academic exchanges with Indian universities, studying Sanskrit texts and meditating at India's sacred Buddhist sites.

Insider Tips

India Travel Tips for South Korean Travellers

✈️ Getting There

Korean Air operates nonstop flights from Incheon (ICN) to Delhi in approximately 8 hours 30 minutes. Air India also flies nonstop on the Delhi-Incheon route. IndiGo launched its Incheon-Delhi nonstop service, offering a budget-friendly alternative. From Delhi, extensive domestic connections reach Chennai (for Hyundai and Korean community), Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and other cities. Total journey time from Seoul to Chennai is typically 11 to 13 hours with one connection.

💳 Money & Payments

India uses Indian Rupee (INR). 1,000 KRW is approximately 60 INR. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in Indian cities and most Korean-issued cards work at Indian ATMs. Samsung Pay works at NFC-enabled terminals in major Indian stores and restaurants. Carry cash for local markets, street food, and temple towns. UPI-based QR payments are common in India but require an Indian bank account to set up.

🏥 Health & Insurance

Korean National Health Insurance (NHIS) does NOT cover you in India. Comprehensive private travel insurance is essential. No mandatory vaccinations are required for entry from South Korea, but Hepatitis A and Typhoid are recommended. Check the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs (mofa.go.kr) for the latest India travel advisory and safety information. Carry any prescription medications with their Korean prescriptions translated into English.

🌡️ When to Go

South Korea uses Type C (two round pins, Europlug) and Type F (Schuko, two round pins with grounding clips) sockets at 220V, 60Hz. India uses Type C, Type D, and Type M sockets at 220-230V, 50Hz. Your Korean Type C plug will fit directly into Indian Type C sockets. Type F (Schuko) plugs are too thick for Indian sockets and need an adaptor. The voltage is nearly identical (220V vs 220-230V), so no converter is needed for any device.

What South Korean Travelers Say

I was booking a last-minute wildlife photography trip to Kaziranga National Park in Assam and the root bridges in Meghalaya. I didn't have time to gamble with application delays. I submitted my details to VisaIn on a Thursday night, and their support team actually reached out within hours to clarify a slight glare on my passport scan before processing it. By Saturday morning, my visa was approved. That proactive customer service is fantastic.

My girlfriend and I planned a culinary and tea-tasting tour starting in Kolkata and heading up to Darjeeling. English isn't our primary language, and the official government portal was filled with confusing legal terms that made us nervous we’d fill something out wrong. We used VisaIn instead. Their form was incredibly straightforward and easy to understand. We got our e-Visas in just two days without any stress. Highly recommend for Korean travelers.

Was invited to a workshop in Ahmedabad and needed to make sure my visa was sorted quickly. In the past, I’ve used the government site and hated how the status tracking rarely updated, leaving me anxious for days. With VisaIn, the communication was excellent. They sent me automatic updates at every stage of the process, so I never had to guess. My e-Visa was approved and emailed to me in under two days. Fantastic service.

Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. All South Korean (Republic of Korea) passport holders need a visa to enter India. There is no visa-free arrangement between South Korea and India. However, South Korean citizens are fully eligible for India's eVisa programme, which means you can apply entirely online without visiting the Indian Embassy in Seoul or the Consulate in Busan. The eVisa is electronically linked to your passport number. Print the approval email and present it at immigration on arrival.

South Korean passport holders can stay up to 90 days per visit on the e-Tourist Visa (1-year and 5-year options). The 30-day e-Tourist Visa allows a maximum of 30 days with double entry. If you need to stay beyond 90 days, you would need to apply for a long-term visa through the Indian Embassy in Seoul. For Korean business travellers who visit India multiple times per year, the 1-year or 5-year multi-entry eVisa is ideal as it allows multiple trips of up to 90 days each without reapplying.

We offer three processing speeds: Express (48 hours), Priority (72 hours), and Standard (96 hours). All times are from receipt of a complete application. South Korea is 3 hours and 30 minutes ahead of India Standard Time (IST). For fastest results, apply in the morning Korean time, which reaches our India-based visa specialists during their working hours. Processing times are based on when your complete application is reviewed by our specialist team.

Always use the romanised name exactly as it appears on your Korean passport. The Indian eVisa system matches names to your travel document, so even a small difference (for example, "Park" vs "Bak", "Lee" vs "Yi", or "Kim" vs "Gim") will cause a mismatch at immigration. If your passport uses a particular romanisation, enter that exact spelling on your visa application. Our expert review team checks for common Korean romanisation issues and will flag any discrepancies before submission. If you have recently changed the romanisation on a renewed passport, make sure you apply with the name on your current valid passport.

No. Korean passport photos are 35mm x 45mm (rectangular), but India requires 51mm x 51mm (square, equivalent to 2x2 inches). If you submit a Korean passport photo without resizing it will be rejected. With VisaIn.in, upload any photo you have and our team will resize and reformat it to India's exact specifications. No need to visit a photo studio for a new photo. Note that Korean photo booths (especially at subway stations) often only produce 35x45mm prints, so let us handle the conversion.

Refusal Protection is an optional paid add-on available at checkout. If your visa application is refused by the Indian government, this add-on refunds your service fee. It provides peace of mind against the rare event of an unexpected visa denial, particularly useful for first-time applicants or those applying on short notice.

Yes. Korean Air operates nonstop flights from Incheon International Airport (ICN) to Delhi (approximately 8 hours 30 minutes). Air India also flies nonstop between Delhi and Incheon. IndiGo offers a budget nonstop option on the Incheon-Delhi route. From Delhi, you can connect to any Indian city on the domestic network. For travellers heading to Chennai (home to the large Korean business community and Hyundai operations), connections through Delhi add approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Direct connectivity between Incheon and Mumbai or Chennai may be available seasonally; check airline schedules at time of booking.

Yes. All Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India are fully accessible on an e-Tourist Visa. This includes Bodh Gaya (where the Buddha attained enlightenment), Sarnath (first teaching), Kushinagar (Parinirvana), Rajgir, Nalanda (the ancient university), and Vaishali. No special religious visa is required. Many Korean Buddhist groups organise annual pilgrimage tours covering the major sites across Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The 30-day e-Tourist Visa is usually sufficient for a pilgrimage circuit, but the 1-year multi-entry option is ideal if you plan multiple visits.

If you are a Korean male who has not yet completed mandatory military service, you may need to obtain travel permission from the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) before departing South Korea. This applies to men aged 25 to 37 who have not yet completed or been exempted from service. Standard tourist trips under 90 days generally do not pose issues, but extended stays or multiple trips in a year may require prior approval. Always verify your current obligations with MMA (mma.go.kr) before booking. The eVisa application itself does not require proof of military service status; this is a Korean domestic requirement enforced at departure.

Yes. VisaIn.in supports group applications for up to 10 travellers in a single booking. Each traveller needs their own passport and photo, but you can manage all applications from one account and pay in one transaction. This is especially convenient for Korean temple pilgrimage groups, family holidays, and business delegations. Each person receives their own individual eVisa linked to their passport number.
